25 Years After California Woman's Kidnapping & Murder, Suspect Finally Arrested

More than two decades after Suzanne Sites-Fenton went missing, an arrest has been made thanks to advancements in her case.

Sites-Fenton was 32 years old when she didn’t come home from working a shift at Mervyn’s in Victorville, Calif. on April 14, 2001. Her husband reported her missing that day, according to a press release from the San Bernadino County Sheriff’s Office.

Two days later, her body found found “in a desolate area” in Hesperia, Calif.

Nearly 25 years after the tragic discovery, 51-year-old Raymond Silva Gonzales was arrested as a suspect in relation to the case.

In 2001, the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigation Division – Homicide Detail took over the investigation, determining that Sites-Fenton was likely kidnapped and sexually assaulted before being fatally shot.

Per the press release, it appeared that Sites-Fenton took a break during her shift and walked outside. Signs of “a physical altercation” inside her car suggest that she was taken while in the parking lot.

Her case went cold for multiple years before the Cold Case Homicide Team identified Gonzalez as a suspect. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was apprehended on January 15, 2026.

The press release, dated January 16, stated that he was being held without bail at the High Desert Detention Center. However, records confirm that he was released on Wednesday (January 28).

The Superior Court of California’s website noted that a hearing was scheduled for Tuesday (February 3).

Just Jared contacted the San Bernadino County Sheriff’s Office for any updates on the case and for clarification about what led to the arrest but did not hear back at the time of publishing.
