He first became co-executive producer in 2006, briefly stepped away, and then returned in 2019, continuing in the role until the present. The latest shake-up is said to be driven by his professional consideration related to the show rather than any personal decision.

Griffith has reportedly quit his executive producer role at The Young and the Restless. The role will be assumed by co-executive producer, Sally McDonald, as per Soap Central. Despite moving away from the EP role, he will continue to remain the head writer for the show.
Griffith’s decision is inspired by him wanting to keep the focus on the writing duties. Therefore, he handed over the sole producing duties to McDonald moving forward. In 2025, McDonald was promoted to the co-executive role alongside Griffith, with reports further claiming that this advancement will lead to the latter leaning more on his writing.
He joined the show in July 2006 as a breakdown writer, with years coming, saw him advancing into various roles and became a key part of the show’s production. In the same year of his recruitment, he also served as a creative consultant for Y&R.
Aside from her executive producing duties, he also supervised production briefly from 2018 to 2019. Apart from Y&R, he has also been part of other beloved long-running soap operas, General Hospital and Days of Our Lives.
At GH, he served as a story consultant, breakdown writer, and script writer before being fired by Robert Guza, Jr. in 2009. From 2015 to 2016, he was a co-head writer at DOOL. Other entertainment projects he was involved in include As the World Turns, Santa Barbara, and One Life to Live.
