The Dorn Savanna is home to the Maasai people, who have preserved their traditions for centuries. In the village of Kasiole, life revolves around daily routines and challenges, especially for schoolchildren. Moseka, an 8-year-old boy, begins his day at 4 a.m. as the family’s night watchman, guarding their cattle against potential predators. When dawn breaks, his journey to school begins—a 10-kilometer trek through the savanna, fraught with dangers like wild animals and the unforgiving heat. Moseka’s family cannot afford essentials like a water bottle, making the journey even more arduous. Along the way, he passes through stunning landscapes and other Maasai villages, some abandoned and others newly built. Despite education being mandatory in Kenya, many children stay home to help with livestock, and few join Moseka on his route. The destination is Ntuka Primary School, the only school within 20 kilometers.
