First-look photos of Romain Gavras’ upcoming satirical thriller Sacrifice, starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Evans, have officially been released, giving fans a preview of the lead ensemble in elegant formal attire. The film originally made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, 2025, before being acquired by Netflix this year.

In the first preview images of the movie, Evans is seen wearing a white suit while Anya-Taylor Joy is dressed in a white outfit wearing a red headband. This still here appears to be from the start of the movie, based on the synopsis given below, where Taylor-Joy’s character crashes the gala attended by Evans’ character.

The movie is directed by Romain Gavras as his English-language debut film. The director is also known for Athena, Our Day Will Come, and Les Misérables. The action-adventure comedy also stars Vincent Cassel, Salma Hayek Pinault, Ambika Mod, John Malkovich, Jonatan “Yung Lean” Leandoer, and Charli XCX.

Sacrifice is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in the U.S. and France on Friday, October 16, 2026.

Sacrifice movie plot follows a celebrity gala that turns into a deadly hostage crisis

According to the official synopsis, the movie centers around Mike Tyler, an insecure movie star attempting to rebuild his career after his public meltdown became a viral sensation. He attends the environmental charity gala hosted by a billionaire entrepreneur and his wife.

But the evening is violently disrupted by a radical group led by Joan, who believes she and her followers have a duty to fulfill a volcanic prophecy and cleanse the Earth. What begins as a glamorous display of virtue and influence quickly spirals into a hostage crisis, forcing everyone involved to confront questions of belief, identity, and what they are willing to sacrifice.

This satirical drama takes aim at celebrity culture, media spectacle, performative activism, and elite hypocrisy while exploring larger questions of faith, conviction, redemption, and the search for meaning in a world built on appearances.
