The Social Network star Armie Hammer has officially signed on for the leading role in director Uwe Boll‘s upcoming vigilante thriller titled The Dark Knight. This serves as Hammer’s lead acting comeback after over three years since going on a hiatus from Hollywood.

In 2022, Hammer dropped out of major movie and TV projects after he was caught up in a social media controversy where he was accused of sexual assault. Before this, the Golden Globe nominee received critical acclaim for his performances in David Fincher’s The Social Network and Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name. The latter earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He also starred in The Man from U.N.C.L.E with Henry Cavill, Nocturnal Animals with Jake Gyllenhaal, On the Basis of Sex with Felicity Jones, and Death on the Nile with Kenneth Branagh.

What is The Dark Knight about?

“Hammer plays Sanders, who takes justice into his own hands as he sets out to hunt down criminals. While his crusade transforms him into a social media sensation and a hero in the eyes of the public, the local police chief sees him as a menace to society and aims to take him down,” reads the synopsis.

The Dark Knight will be written and directed by Boll, who’s best known for his work on 2003’s House of the Dead, 2005’s Alone in the Dark, and 2009’s Rampage. Production is expected to begin later this month in Croatia. The thriller movie is executive produced by Michael Roesch.
