I have questions that will be answered soon, but I wanted to follow up on my last column. The original question mentioned folks who were leaving existing games to play something else, and I said players need to commit to playing a game, not leave because the "grass seems greener", so to speak.

However, there are certainly times when it's okay to leave:

• Naturally having a personal or work emergency would qualify, including illness.

• Being misled — whether deliberately or by happenstance — about the length of a game. If the game length is said to be around one hour, and the game is going past two hours, then I think it's okay to bail.

• Being harassed or being significantly uncomfortable playing because of how another player is behaving.

What are other times you've left a game? I would love to hear from folks!

I bring this up because I was at Dice Tower West last week, and I had a chance to learn and play Galactic Cruise. Thing is, I really have trouble learning games at the table, and I shouldn't have joined this game. The game teach started around 8:00 a.m., and by 11:00 a.m. we were (what seemed like) not even halfway through the game. I was struggling mightily to understand the rules, and I was super hungry...so I left. Didn't feel great about it, and again I never should have joined in the first place, but I really wanted to play the game, so I made the wrong choice about whether to sit down or not!

Best,

Ms. Meeple (Jennifer Schlickbernd)

P.S. If there's a situation in your board game group or at a meetup that you would like advice on, please send me a Geekmail with "Ms. Meeple" in the title.
