Here is the discussion for this week:The game group has been growing organically by way of adding interested folks to a Discord server. In the beginning, it was difficult to get consistent attendance, so the thought was that if we could get only sporadic attendance from any one participant individually, by adding more people, most of the time we should have the 3-4 people needed to play one of our favorites.
This plan has now backfired as several folks have adjusted their availability from showing up once every two months to now attending every week. This occurs at a friend's place who has a table large enough for eight people if we squeeze in, but he (and the group at large) has refused the idea of splitting into multiple games, which would be my solution.
More and more frequently, however, we are getting 6-8 participants showing up. Any guidance on potentially limiting attendance without kicking folks out?

Most of the time, when a group gets too big, players find a bigger place with more space to play. If that's not possible or desirable, the group needs to decide what to do.
When I asked for clarification, you said that the table was large enough to accommodate two games at once, but that was not what others preferred to do. With that in mind, since the other players have no issues with this new "large group" phenomenon, this is going to be a problem for you, not the group.
If the group insists that everyone continue to play at the same table, I would tell the other players that the group appears to be at the maximum size, so you shouldn't invite others to play since there likely won't be any space to put them in...but that doesn't address what seems to be the larger issue.
Me personally, I'd leave this group and find or start another group that would be more likely to give me an opportunity to play 3-4 player games instead of having to play 6-8 player games, which are not the kind of games in which I'm interested. However, it's their call — and yours.
Best,
