Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayAubrey Plaza‘s new Prime Video comedy show has garnered mixed-to-positive reviews, resulting in a Rotten Tomatoes score lower than her previous major small-screen project, Disney+ and the MCU’s Agatha All Along. Kevin is an animated sitcom that revolves around the eponymous anthropomorphic cat, voiced by Jason Schwartzman. Plaza voices Kevin’s former human owner. Plaza co-created the series with Joe Wengert.
What critics are saying about Kevin in reviews
Kevin has drawn moderately positive responses from professional critics. Alison Herman of Variety is one of the critics who gave the show a positive review. “It’ll never be mistaken for a kid-friendly weekend cartoon… Yet there’s a feel-good arc to Kevin’s journey that carries through even its most absurd and over-the-top concepts,” Herman wrote.
Decider‘s Joel Keller also praised the show, observing, “Kevin works because it’s not just leaning on gags. It really tries to put its characters and stories in a position to be funny without leaning on gags, which makes the gags funny instead of fatiguing to watch.”
Angie Han of The Hollywood Reporter compared Kevin with other New York City-set comedies like Friends, Seinfeld, and Adults. Han added, “The series feels most surprising and most delightful when it gives itself over to full-bore silliness, as with a C-plot in which a colony of ants crowns Judy as their new queen, or another in which Kevin meets Rat Pizza — a sentient slice of pizza that drags a dead rat around and bitterly laments how unfavorably he’s treated compared to his celebrity inverse.”
In contrast, FandomWire‘s M.N. Miller gave Kevin one of its negative reviews. “A complete misfire, the new animated Prime Video comedy series Kevin is unfunny, unpleasant, and practically unwatchable,” Miller’s review reads.
Kevin gets a lower score on Rotten Tomatoes than Agatha All Along
Kevin currently has a 63% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, considerably lower than Agatha All Along’s score of 84%. The former debuted on Prime Video on April 20. Although more reviews may count toward its score in the future, they are unlikely to cause a significant change in the rating.
