Authorities Believe Savannah Guthrie's Mother Was Abducted from Her Home, Sheriff Says She 'Did Not Leave On Her Own, We Know That'

Authorities now believe that Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie‘s mother, Nancy Guthrie, may have been abducted from her home in Tucson, Ariz.

According to TMZ, a Pima County Sheriff’s Office rep said that abduction is “one avenue we’re looking into.” But they would not disclose if blood was found at the scene or if it looked like a struggle occurred.

Nancy, 84, was reported missing on Sunday afternoon. She was last seen in the Catalina Foothills area on Saturday night (January 31) at approximately 9:45 p.m. local time.

During a Monday (February 2) press conference, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that Nancy “did not leave on her own, we know that,” per ABC News.

While Nancy does not have any reported cognitive issues like dementia or Alzheimer’s, she is on medication she needs to take daily and if she doesn’t have it within 24 hours, “it could be fatal.”

“So we make a plea to anyone that knows anything about this, who has seen something, heard something, to contact us, call 911,” Nanos said, also asking residents and neighbors to check their camera footage.

The search and rescue efforts went well into the night on Sunday, but has ended for now. Nanos says they do not “see this as a search missions, as much as we do a crime scene.”

ABC News says the FBI is assisting with the investigation.

Police previously provided an update saying they believe that Nancy‘s disappearance is a “crime” and her home is a “crime scene.”

Savannah has since released a statement, you can read it here.

Please contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900 with any information. She is said to have limited mobility but apparently does not have any cognitive issues.

Authorities say they do not believe there is any threat to the public right now.
