Let’s get into all Carly’s recommendations.

When I found out I was pregnant, I became even more obsessed with what I was putting in my body. Of course, I’ve been careful about medicines and food choices for years. But before pregnancy, if I slipped up and had a Diet Coke or a couple of Tylenol, I didn’t lose sleep over it. Once I got the good news that I was consuming for two, I realized that everything I put into my body could impact my baby’s health and development. Cue me label-checking like it was my full-time job.
To sum it up: I was terrified I would have to stop taking my products.
When I started Beekeeper’s Naturals, I was 23 and pregnancy was the last thing on my mind (AVOIDING it was definitely on my mind.) But when I began planning to get pregnant, I was terrified I would have to stop taking Beekeeper’s products during pregnancy. So I did a deep dive into the research on bee products and their benefits for prenatal health. I was thrilled to find a wealth of evidence suggesting that high-quality natural products like propolis, royal jelly, and bee pollen can have significant positive effects on maternal and fetal health.
Here are the products I took every day during my pregnancy—and the research that backs them up.
BEE-BASED PREGNANCY ESSENTIALS:
Ginger Lemon Lozenges: The First-Trimester Lifesaver
During my first trimester, morning sickness had me feeling like I was on a never-ending roller coaster, minus the fun. Waves of it hit me all day, and one of the only things that helped were these ginger lemon lozenges. They contain a solid dose of real ginger extract, which soothed my nausea without being overpowering (we specifically formulated them that way because I don’t love the taste of ginger). I was truly addicted to these for months.
Why Ginger Works
Ginger can ease nausea by stimulating gastric emptying and improving gastric motility. Plus, it’s been used for centuries as a natural stomach soother. {source}
A Bonus for Immunity
The lozenges also had the added benefit of supporting my immune health, which is vital during pregnancy. The immune-supporting ingredients include propolis, vitamin D, and zinc. While my prenatal multi also had vitamin D and zinc, zinc has a local effect, meaning it’s better absorbed through the airways when taken in lozenge form.
Propolis Throat Spray: Natural Immune Defense
Your Daily Immune Sidekick
Fun fact (or not-so-fun, depending on how you look at it): Pregnancy weakens your immune system to keep your body from rejecting the baby. As a result, it’s much easier to get sick during pregnancy, and when you do, it often hits harder. To support my immune system, I used our Beekeeper’s Naturals Propolis Throat Spray daily. Like zinc, propolis works best when applied locally to target where most viruses start: the ENT system. That’s why our propolis spray is in Lauryn’s immune support toolkit.
Beyond Just Immunity
Propolis also has benefits beyond immune support. Multiple studies have shown it helps combat free radical damage and oxidative stress, which are implicated in a range of pregnancy complications. {source}
Vitamin C Liposomal Pouches: Supercharged Muscle Recovery
For even more immunity support, I took one pouch of our Beekeeper’s Liposomal Vitamin C a day. Taking 1000 mg of vitamin C in a liposomal formula actually lets your body absorb all those good immune-boosting vitamins.
Natural Muscle Recovery
By the second and third trimesters, I was carrying around a lot of weight. Anyone who’s been pregnant knows the toll that takes on your muscles. And your body is constantly changing so your muscles need to adjust to respond. That really taxes them. Vitamin C is great for muscle recovery. Taken in a liposomal form allows it to be maximally absorbed through the muscle tissue.
Superfood Honey: Royal Jelly Is a Pregnancy Gamechanger A Caffeine-Free Energy Hack
I don’t drink caffeine, but many of my friends struggled to give it up during pregnancy. I always suggest substituting royal jelly for caffeine. Take one teaspoon of this magic every morning, and boom—energy without the caffeine crash. I took one teaspoon of superfood honey (which includes royal jelly) every morning during pregnancy—it gave me sustained energy without the crashes I used to get from caffeine. It’s why I made the switch years ago.
Protection for Baby
Royal jelly may also help protect against fetal absorption of microplastics. It contains 10-HDA, a unique fatty acid, and research suggests it may have protective effects against microplastic-induced damage. {source 1 & 2}
What Makes Royal Jelly So Special?
Royal jelly is a milky secretion made by worker bees and used to feed the Queen Bee and her larvae. It’s credited for the queen bee’s superior size, strength, stamina, fertility rates, and longevity compared to other bees. It consists of water, carbs, protein, fat, B vitamins, and trace minerals. Its positive effects are thought to stem from its unique proteins and fatty acids. In addition to 10-HDA, royal jelly contains acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that influences brain processing speed and memory. {source}
