One of 2005’s hit adventure comedy movies starring Ben Stiller and Chris Rock has finally been added to Netflix‘s library. As of today, DreamWorks Animation’s blockbuster film Madagascar is now officially available to stream on Netflix, over two decades after it was first released in theaters.

What do we know about Ben Stiller’s Madagascar movie?

Madagascar was directed by Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath, who co-wrote the screenplay with Mark Burton and Billy Frolick. The ensemble cast also starred David Schwimmer as Melman, Jada Pinkett Smith as Gloria, Sacha Baron Cohen as King Julien XIII, Cedric the Entertainer as Maurice, Andy Richter as Mort, Tom McGrath as Skipper, Chris Miller as Kowalski, Jeffrey Katzenberg as Rico, Bob Saget as Pal, and more. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the animated movie was a box office hit with a gross of around $558 million.

“Move it! Move it! 4 pampered animals from New York’s Central Park Zoo find themselves shipwrecked on the exotic island of Madagascar, and discover it really IS a jungle out there! Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, and Jada Pinkett Smith lead an all-star cast of hilarious animals, including four mischievous penguins and legions of lemurs. It’s a film that you’ll go wild for again and again,” reads the official synopsis.

Due to its commercial success, DreamWorks Animation transformed the 2005 movie into a multimedia franchise consisting of two direct sequels (2008’s Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa in 2008, 2012’s Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted) and one spin-off movie in 2014, Penguins of Madagascar. The film franchise currently has a combined worldwide gross of over $2.2 billion. Besides the movies, the studio has also produced animated spin-off shows, including Nickelodeon’s The Penguins of Madagascar, Netflix’s All Hail King Julien, and Peacock’s Madagascar: A Little Wild.
