Review:
Overview:
I usually wear sandals and/or no socks when I wear my running shoes if I can get away from it. But, when I saw that I could get socks with a board game theme for only $6 a pair, I was like what the heck, I might as well give them a shot! So I did!
Rules & Setup:
Take them out of the package and place them upon your feet before you put your shoes on and/or just put them on to keep your feet warm when walking around the house.
Theme and Mechanics:
They did a good job placing generic board game themed things on then from hexes to dice to scrabble tiles. Well done!
Gameplay:
Really there’s no game play to these. But they are quite comfortable. Think outrageous church like socks. While they may not go well with your conservative church suits, I would probably wear them to church if I was a church goer regardless of how much they made me stand out. I was the guy who collected neck ties galore over 25 years ago when I served a 2 year mormon mission for my church. I especially loved the crazy ties and those that you could clearly tell were from the 1970’s! I even got some board game neck ties on Kickstarter quite sometime ago. The greatest thing about both would probably be that they could be a good conversation starter. Maybe a good way to get others into board gaming. Because let’s be honest, how many none board gamers really know what meeples are or hexes when it comes to board games?
Artwork and Components:
I like the art work that was found on these socks. My favorite ones were probably numbered hexes one that was part of the Legacy Design, the green ones with weird lines from the Core Design and I especially like the Blue/Yellow ones with different colored meeples all over them that was a Stretch Goal Design.
The Good:
Great conversation starters. Good feet covering.
The Other:
They may not go well with your conservative suits at churches (as discussed above) or weddings (But hey, it’s me. Speaking of which, I wore a white tuxedo and white shoes to go with it for my wedding some 24+ years ago. Naturally, because it was somewhat of a church thing for me, I wore black church socks which probably didn’t go the best with the ensemble. Had I had these board game socks, I probably would’ve worn them) and funerals.
Also, for first time wears if you struggle with dry feet like me be careful when first putting them on because your dead skin might end up snagging on them the first couple of wears. However, after some use and a few times through the washer and dryer this doesn’t seem to be a problem for me anymore.
Final Thoughts:
If you need some socks for your feet, I’d say these are pretty cool stockings to go with. I’d love it if they partnered with some of my favorite board games like Star Realms or Uno or something like that. But I wear mine quite ofter, when I can find them. Unfortunately, I have yet to come up with a solution for separating pairs so I’ll sometimes mismatch them. But, hey these mismatch quite well too!
