What President Joe Biden Said to Donald Trump During Milestone Inauguration Reunion

Carrie Underwood gave it her all at the 2025 presidential inauguration.

The “Before He Cheats” singer gave a powerful performance at the Jan. 20 ceremony at the swearing in of Donald Trump—who won against former Vice President Kamala Harris in November—and J.D. Vance as president and vice president, respectively.

Wearing a grey mock neck dress with dangly earrings and a bedazzled bracelet, the American Idol alum performed “America the Beautiful” at the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C., accompanied by the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club.

After a slight delay in the music, the country singer decided to perform the tune A Capella. Probing the crowd to sing alongside her in lieu of a backtrack, she said, "if you know the words, help me out here."

Ahead of the 2025 presidential inauguration, she expressed what it meant to receive the request to sing.

"I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event," she said in a statement to E! News. "I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future."

And the 41-year-old’s performance was just one part of Trump’s big day, which kicked off a day earlier with a celebration and fireworks display at Trump National Sterling in northern Virginia on Jan. 19. On Inauguration Day, the 78-year-old, attended services at St. John's Church, followed by tea at the White House before being officially sworn in.

While Underwood may have brought the (white) house down with her voice, she previously opened up about why she often refrains from getting into politics.

"I try to stay far out of politics, if possible, at least in public, because nobody wins," Underwood told The Guardian in 2019. "It’s crazy. Everybody tries to sum everything up and put a bow on it, like it’s black and white. And it’s not like that."

Alongside her inauguration debut, the “Church Bells” singer has had her hands full with another resume builder—being a new judge on American Idol season 23. And while she couldn’t be more thrilled for the role, her children were previously a bit confused about what it is that mom does for work.

"They don't really know what I do. They do, but they don't, which I love," she told E! News in October, admitting how her new role on Idol will likely change that. “I'm mom to them, but I think they're going to understand when they start seeing episodes."
