Many celebrities have signed a new campaign opposing the use of AI.

Cate Blanchett and Scarlett Johansson, who has been against AI for years, are among the 800 creatives that have lent their names to a campaign against the use of AI without permission.

The initiative was launched by Human Artistry Campaign, which is a coalition of creators, union and industry groups who are advocating for their rights, according to The Wrap.

“America’s creative community is the envy of the world and creates jobs, economic growth and exports,” reads the campaign message. “But rather than respect and protect this valuable asset, some of the biggest tech companies, many backed by private equity and other funders, are using American creators’ work to build AI platforms without authorization or regard for copyright law.”

“Artists, writers and creators of all kinds are banding together with a simple message: Stealing our work is not innovation. It’s not progress. It’s theft – plain and simple,” the statement continued.

The campaign urges that tech companies should look into licensing deals and partnerships with creators, acknowledging “some AI companies have taken the responsible, ethical route to obtaining the content and materials they wish to use.”

They note that “it is possible to have it all,” and add, “we can have advanced, rapidly developing AI and ensure creators’ rights are respected.”

Other stars who have signed the campaign include Joseph Gordon Levitt, Olivia Munn, Cyndi Lauper, Bonnie Raitt, Chaka Khan, Common, Questlove and One Republic.

In the past, Scarlett sought legal action against an AI app that used her likeness, and the ad was removed from the internet.

She also spoke out last year regarding an AI-generated video of herself.
