At the Grand Palais, Matthieu Blazy marked a year as Chanel‘s creative director with 83 looks that moved almost chronologically through Gabrielle Chanel’s life. Beneath a canopy of golden birds, the real storytelling happened in the smallest details of each look—from head to toe, each element reflected the exact vision of Blazy for the house.

Ornamentation on footwear

A pale mint suede slingback sat atop a sculpted block heel, and its toe is finished with a cluster of enamelled green buttons and finished with pearls—looked like the buttons were sourced from the dressmaker’s workroom, while the pearls offered a subtle nod to Coco Chanel’s signature.

Feathered corsage brooch

A sheer black knit was scattered with tiny red embroidered blooms, finished with a feathered black corsage brooch pinned at the middle of the upper torso. It echoed the show’s core inspiration of ornament.

The gilded earrings

A hammered gold bird perched on the ear, its slender red plumage feathers trailing down the neck. It offered the clearest connection to the birds suspended above the runway.

A gold filigree bag

A gilded birdcage minaudière was carried like a lantern, its openwork branches decorated with silver swallows and enamelled blossoms.

Card suit buttons

Heart and card-suit pins ran down a grey tweed sleeve, echoing the collection’s playful card-suit buttons.

The web-like collar

A web of glass drop beads, pearls and bugle beads in garnet and amber layered over dark tweed, while twisted gold rings stood in for buttons, reinforcing tweed’s place at the heart of the collection.

Taken together, these pieces reveal Blazy’s Chanel in its most intimate form—every flower, bird and button carries a fragment of the house’s story, yet nothing feels overly literal or costume-like. The result is lighter and more playful, while still holding onto the codes that have defined Chanel for decades.
