A Charlize Theron sci-fi film is set to join Paramount+. The 2005 movie has been added to the streaming service’s upcoming release slate, bringing the futuristic action thriller to a new audience. The move comes over two decades after the film first debuted in theaters.

Aeon Flux to stream on Paramount+ next month

Charlize Theron’s post-apocalyptic sci-fi film Aeon Flux is heading to a new streaming platform. Paramount+ has confirmed that the 2005 movie will be available to stream on the service beginning July 1, 2026.

Directed by Karyn Kusama from a screenplay by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, Aeon Flux was released in the United States on December 2, 2005. Set in the year 2415, the film takes place long after a deadly virus nearly brought humanity to extinction. This left only five million people living in the city of Bregna.

The story centers on Æon Flux, a mysterious assassin aligned with the Monicans, a rebel group determined to overthrow Trevor Goodchild’s government. Acting on Handler’s orders, she is then sent to eliminate Goodchild. However, the operation takes an unexpected turn as she uncovers hidden secrets and a wider conspiracy that forces her to question everything.

Theron leads the film as Æon Flux alongside Marton Csokas as Trevor Goodchild. The cast also includes Jonny Lee Miller as Oren Goodchild, Sophie Okonedo as Sithandra, Frances McDormand as Handler, Pete Postlethwaite as Keeper, and Amelia Warner as Una Flux, among others.

The film received a largely negative critical response and underperformed at the global box office. On Rotten Tomatoes, Aeon Flux holds a 9% critics’ score based on 107 reviews. Meanwhile, its audience rating stands at 39%.

The film also struggled commercially during its theatrical run. According to Box Office Mojo, it grossed $53.3 million worldwide. This includes approximately $25.8 million from domestic theaters and $27.4 million from international markets.
