Christiane Amanpour is preparing to leave CNN after more than four decades with the network.

The 68-year-old journalist announced on Monday (October 19) that she plans to depart in June 2027, bringing her 43-year career at CNN to an end.

Christiane, who serves as CNN’s chief international anchor, shared her decision with colleagues after considering her future at the network, according to Variety.

Why Is Christiane Amanpour Leaving CNN?

Christiane explained that her decision followed a period of reflection about the next chapter of her career, saying she “looks forward to interesting new projects down the line.”

She expressed gratitude for her time at CNN and voiced continued support for the network’s commitment to independent journalism.

The journalist also emphasized the importance of reporting the truth.

“Remember: always be truthful, not neutral,” she said in her statement.

CNN chairman and CEO Mark Thompson acknowledged the announcement in a memo to staff.

He expressed regret over her decision to leave while recognizing that she had determined the timing was right for her, both personally and professionally.

“Christiane has thought carefully about this decision, and she and I have been discussing it for some months,” he acknowledged.

Her departure is not immediate. Christiane will remain with CNN into 2027, with her exit scheduled for June.

She currently hosts Amanpour on CNN International and Amanpour & Company, which also airs on PBS.

“I will end my daily shows across CNN and PBS at the end of this year, while continuing to maintain a weekly show on CNN through May and working on a smooth transition through June,” she said in her statement.
