Chyler Leigh is the latest Grey’s Anatomy star to speak out following the devastating death of Eric Dane.

Eric passed away at the age of 53 on February 19, 2026 following a battle with ALS, which he announced just 10 months ago.

The following day, Chyler – who played Eric‘s onscreen love interest Dr. Lexie Grey on the ABC medical drama – released a statement mourning her co-star.

“Eric had a heart of gold,” she continued. “His humor and, especially, his laugh was infectious. He was a deeply intelligent man who could carry a philosophical conversation for hours even while we were on set. He was an amazing father and loved his girls FIERCELY. Incredibly passionate about his work and the causes he kept close to his heart.”

Chyler went on the emphasize how Eric‘s legacy will live on.

“The Universe is undoubtedly holding Eric now,” she continued, “just as I will continue to do within my heart forever.”
