This film marks DC Studios’ first-ever foray into the genre of horror-thriller.

The teaser trailer is a short one, but gives just enough of a clue of what’s to come. The minute-long footage shows Clayface (Tom Rhys Harries) in a hospital bed, interspersed with images that haunt him.

DC Studios released a synopsis of Clayface

The film unravels one man’s horrifying descent from rising Hollywood star to revenge-filled monster in a story that explores the loss of one’s identity and humanity, corrosive love, and the dark underbelly of scientific ambition.

Also starring in the upcoming movie are Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan, along with Nancy Carroll and Joshua James.

Clayface is a former Gotham actor named Basil Karlo who snaps after his career collapses and ends up transformed into a shapeshifting clay monster. In the DC Universe, he’s one of Batman’s villains, using his ability to impersonate anyone for crime while also being a tragic figure who’s constantly trying (and failing) to reclaim his old life.

The film hits theaters on October 23.
