Taylor Swift‘s new song “Cleveland!” has arrived and everyone wants to know what it’s about, so let’s examine the lyrics right here.

The track is featured on Taylor‘s new deluxe album, The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, which is now streaming everywhere with four new songs.

Taylor‘s husband Travis Kelce grew up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio and he recently purchased a $5.35 million lakefront mansion in a village right outside of the city. Fans initially are thinking that the song could be about the singer embracing her husband’s hometown or their new life together in Ohio.

What does the song “Cleveland!” mean?

The song is clearly about Travis and his hometown, but she’s also cheekily referencing the comments that people make about her.

She begins the song, “She’s not as hot as she was, but she was only a four / She was never a girls’ girl, she was just a— / And with all of that money, why’s she dressed like trash? / When she smiles, it’s annoying, and have you seen her / Stumbling clumsily? / Would you even call that dancing?”

“And now I guess there’s / Something we all can agree on / But my baby likes what he likes / He already took me to Cleveland / And showed me The Heights! / So hate all you like / This is the love of my life,” she sings on the chorus.

Travis obviously is a major Cleveland sports fan because he grew up in the city.

In the past few years, Taylor has shown up with him at two sporting events: a Cleveland Cavaliers basketball game on May 23, 2026 and a Cleveland Guardians baseball game in NYC on October 14, 2024.
