Mr. Irrelevant follows the story of Tuggle, the last pick of the NY Giants in 1983, and a player who played just one season. He passed away at the age of 25 in August 1986 and also received the New York Giants Special Teams Player of the Year award. Talking about the plot, David Corenswet told People, “I love a reminder to smile at the person in front of me, or smile to myself, and just marvel at the reality of the moment. I think John served as that kind of reminder to a lot of people. There’s a lot to look forward to. Some great mustaches. Jonathan Levine knows music — you’re gonna feel that. It got me dancing. That’s in the movie.”

Furthermore, director Jonathan Levine stated that Mr. Irrelevant is filled with “triumph and laughter, romance and heartache.” He added that Corenswet was cast because he needed “someone who radiated John’s charm, charisma, and infectious good nature.” Levine also described David Corenswet as the “beating heart and soul of this movie.”

The movie arrives in cinemas on December 25 this year.
