The Stranger Things actor hit the red carpet at the 2025 Critics Choice Awards in Santa Monica, Calif., Feb. 7, marking his first public appearance since he and Lily Allen broke up after four years of marriage.

The newly-single star arrived to the 30th annual ceremony, hosted by Chelsea Handler, donning a black suit and matching shirt with no tie. Notably, David did not wear a wedding ring, although he has stepped out without one on a number of occasions in the past.

Prior to the night out, the 49-year-old separated from Lily, 39, after more than four years of marriage, according to multiple outlets. The two made their red carpet debut in January 2020 at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and went on to marry in Las Vegas that September, according to court records obtained by E! News at the time.

Recently, however, the “Smile” singer got candid about struggling with her mental health amid rumors her marriage was on the rocks.

“I’m finding it really hard to be interested in anything,” she shared on her Miss Me? Podcast in January. “I know I’ve been talking about it for months, but I’ve been spiraling and spiraling and it’s got out of control.”

While the couple did not have any children together, David previously detailed the transformative effect of his bond with Lily’s daughters Ethel, 13, and Marnie, 11, whom she shares with ex-husband Sam Cooper.

“I'm in a relationship with three women who all have very different opinions of me at various times,” he told People three months after exchanging vows. “Making that kind of a commitment, which I haven't for most of my life, was a huge thing for me. And it just makes you feel a little bit more like a man, to be honest. I just feel a little bit more like an adult.”
