When I saw the first pap shots of Nicole Kidman walking the red carpet at the 2025 Met Gala, I thought she'd done a simple updo with a big, glamorous side bang—you know, a pretty staple Nicole look—but then she turned to the side and I gasped when I realized there wasn't a ponytail or bun or chignon to be found in the back. Rather, Kidman's hair tapered off into air at the nape of her neck.

The look is just barely too short and too layered to be a bob, but it's too long to be a true pixie, too—either way, it's probably the shortest hair Kidman has ever worn on the red carpet.

After double-taking at Kidman's neck, I raced to Allure's group chats to rave about Kidman's drastic new haircut. What a surprise, right? She hasn't made a big hair change in years! That's when we got a closer look and realized we might not be looking at Kidman's actual hair here. In fact, we'd bet you'll see Kidman with her long hair back intact later… because this is likely the result of an incredibly well-made and well-installed wig (a conclusion we reached from staring way too hard at her hairline in the below photo).
