Dr Abdul El-Sayed is the projected winner of the Senate race in Michigan!
The 42-year-old epidemiologist and Democratic candidate was running against Republican Mike Rogers, vying for the seat being vacated by Democrat Gary Peters.
By becoming the elected winner in Tuesday’s (November 3) midterm election, Abdul becomes the first Muslim person voted into office in the United States Senate.
According to his website, key priorities he was running on getting “money out of politics, put money in your pocket, and pass Medicare for All. He is fighting for an economy and healthcare system that work for everyone, affordable housing for all, and clean air and water. He’s committed to accessible education and sensible foreign policy rooted in diplomacy and justice.”

The Michigan race was one of the battleground states looking to clinch a Democratic seat and being one of the close races being watched during this election cycle. This year’s midterms has been dubbed a “Blue Tsunami” as Democrats sweep the elections, taking control of the House and the Senate.
Democrats have flipped seven seats in the Senate election from Republican, while they also flipped over 20 seats in the House. There have also been several key states flipping blue in the gubernatorial races across the country, with Texas, Iowa, Ohio, and Georgia electing Democrats.
Speaking of Georgia, constituents elected Keisha Lance Bottoms, making her the first-ever Black woman to become a Governor in the United States.
Just ahead of Election Day, Abdul got the support of Adam Brody in a campaign video following headlines over the past few weeks about his political views.
