Eric Dane‘s GoFundMe is facing some criticism.

The Grey’s Anatomy star sadly passed away due to ALS at the age of 53, and a GoFundMe was launched by his loved ones to support his daughters.

There has been some criticism online for Eric‘s family asking for money.

At the time of his passing, Celebrity Net Worth reported he was worth an estimated $3 million.

A source close to the family has since spoken out to TMZ.

According to the source, Eric faced substantial medical bills during his battle with ALS, and the fund was started by friends to help his children.

Right now, it’s raised over $400,000.

Many of the donations are in smaller amounts of $5 or $10, so people clearly understand the purpose, the source also notes, although there have been some big donations by stars like Hailey Bieber and Sam Levinson, who have donated at least $20,000 each. Brad Falchuk also gave $10,000.

Eric was single when he passed away, the source also notes. He and his wife Rebecca Gayheart were estranged.

There was similar backlash when James Van Der Beek‘s loved ones set up a GoFundMe.
