The Scooby Gang is mourning the death of Nicholas Brendon.

Best known for playing Xander Harris on the beloved supernatural drama show that ran on The WB, and later UPN, from 1997 to 2003, Nicholas passed away on March 20. His family shared a statement revealing he passed in his sleep from natural causes at the age of 54.

On the show, Xander is one of the first friends that Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) makes when she transfers to Sunnydale High School. He and Willow (Alyson Hannigan) are also some of the first people to believe Buffy and regularly help her save the world.

While Nicholas would go on to star in other projects like Psycho Beach Party, Coherence, and Criminal Minds, it is his work on Buffy that people remember most of all.

Following news of Nicholas‘ devastating passing, many Buffy stars have spoken out to pay tribute to their late co-star.
