F1 Driver Ollie Bearman Speaks Out After Scary Crash During Japanese Grand Prix

Ollie Bearman is addressing his big crash at the 2026 Formula 1 Aramco Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday (March 29).

The 20-year-old TGR Haas F1 Team driver was involved in a one-car crash during the latest F1 race, where he went into the wall at 50Gs.

During the Japanese Grand Prix, Ollie was heading into the Spoon curve when Franco Colapinto moved off the racing line causing Bearman to take avoiding action off the track, resulting him into driving across the grass, crossing the track and sliding into the wall at a high speed.

“[Bearman] just had a huge closing speed against the car in front, so he had to take avoiding action,” Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu told Sky Sports. “He went on the grass and crashed. [It was] scary.”

After the crash, Ollie was seen limping after getting out of the car. The team then confirmed that he was taken to the medical center and received an x-ray, and confirmed there were no broken bones or fractures.

Later on, Haas shared a new video of Ollie confirming he was okay. The driver will now have five weeks off, due to canceled races in the Middle East, to recover before the Miami Grand Prix in Florida in May.

“Happy to report that everything is ok,” Ollie shared in the video. “Really sorry to the team for what happened. It was a bit of a freak accident with such a huge closing speed. So we need to go back and understand everything.”

“Now we have a month off to come back,” he continued. “I’m going to use this time to rest up and feel better before the next race in Miami. Thank you so much for your support, it means the world.”

If you missed it, the voice cast of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie were in attendance at the Japanese Grand Prix, where Jack Black waved the checkered flag at the end of the race!

Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli won his second race in a row, taking him to the top of the Drivers Championship. He is now the youngest driver to ever lead the championship at just 19 years old.
