HBO's ‘Harry Potter’ TV Show’s First Trailer Reveals Release Date and Full Cast Debut

HBO solemnly swears it is up to some good.

Indeed, the network released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Harry Potter TV series on March 25, revealing the show will debut for Christmas 2026. It also gave viewers a first full look at newcomers Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout as central trio Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, respectively.

“You are a normal boy and you are going to start acting like one,” Aunt Petunia (Bel Powley) tells Harry as she cuts his hair and forces him to live in the cupboard under the stairs. “You think you’re something special? There is nothing special about you.”

However, as Harry receives his letter to attend the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, we see him meet Hagrid (Nick Frost), Hermione and Ron on his way to discovering that he is, in fact, quite special.

“I think we can expect great things from you,” wandmaster Garrick Ollivander (Anton Lesser) tells Harry as he gives him his first wand. “Let’s see who you are.”

The trailer also gave quick peek at some of the other major figures within the Wizarding World—specifically, John Lithgow at the helm of as Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore, as well as Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.

Ahead of the first footage of the TV series, the original Boy Who Lived Daniel Radcliffe issued a plea asking fans to avoid comparing the new cast to himself and costars Emma Watson and Rupert Grint

“When these kids got cast, there was a huge thing on the internet around the world of people being like, ‘We’ve got to look out for these kids,’” Daniel told ScreenRant in February. “But if everyone really means that, one of the things you can do for me is not ask about me, Emma and Rupert all the time.”

As he emphasized, “I would like [for us] to not be weird spectral phantoms in these children’s lives and just let them get on with it, because this is going to be a new thing. It’s going to be a different thing.”

In fact, The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins star expects the new Harry to outshine his own performance in the film franchise based on J.K. Rowling’s books.

“I’m sure Dominic is going to be better than me,” he noted. “I look back at what I did now with a lot more kindness and I find it less embarrassing now that I’m older. I was very much learning how to do it for a long time.”
