Former NFL Star Tony Romo Arrested For OWI
Tony Romo is facing legal trouble.
The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback was arrested and charged with operating while impaired (OWI) after he was pulled over in Milwaukee, Wis., July 23, according to the Milwaukee County arrest report obtained by E! News.
After he was stopped by police around 6:18 p.m. local time, Romo “performed poorly” on standard field sobriety tests, per the report. He was then taken into custody, booked and released.
The records also indicate that Romo’s OWI charge is his first offense, which Wisconsin law does not recognize as a criminal charge and typically carries a fine ranging from $150 to $300, according to local outlet WISN 12.
He is scheduled to appear in court for the charge on Sept. 21.
E! News has reached out to a rep for Romo for comment but has not yet heard back.
Hours before his arrest, the 46-year-old was participating in the Wisconsin Amateur Championship golf tournament and spoke about his love for golf and football.
"I am competitive in both, I am just better at football,” he told local news outlet TMJ4. “But I think we are gaining strides."
And while Romo—dad to three sons with wife Candice Crawford—shared he loves “the challenge” of competing in golf tournaments, he admitted that his role as CBS Sports’ lead football analyst is difficult for him in a different way.

"My son will be like, 'Watch this highlight, watch yourself,’ and I am like, 'Ah, I don't like doing it,'” he confessed. “It's one of those things where you feel like, ‘I could have done better.’ Other times, people tell you you are doing great and I still don't want to see it.”
Although Romo may not relish in watching playback of himself, he is still passionate about educating fans.
“For me, it is always making the viewer learn something or enjoy the telecast,” he continued. “It's their team. This is a huge deal. I always want them to understand.”
