A young girl in Ohio is being recognized for helping to save the day when someone suffered a “medical emergency.”

In a Tuesday (March 10) post on Facebook, Washington Township shouted out 9-year-old Parker, who was receiving a Lifesaving Award from the Washington Township Fire Department.

“Last month, Washington Township resident Craig Chabut had a medical emergency that left his truck partially submerged in a retention pond,” the post read. “Parker stayed calm, called 911, and kept herself and her younger brother safe until first responders arrived.”

The post continued, noting, “That’s real courage. We’re so proud of Parker and relieved everyone is doing well!”

The local fire department also praised the young hero in a post of their own, writing, “Great job, Parker! She learned how to call 911 at Safetyville Square, and that lesson helped her take the right action during an emergency.”

Exact details of the situation, including if Parker and her brother were in the car at the time of the crash, were not immediately clear.

Fellow residents in the area were quick to celebrate Parker’s bravery and quick thinking.

“This story is amazing! And you say she learned it at Safetyville square!!! Way to go, Parker!” one person replied in the comments section on the fire department’s page.
