Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming God of War television series is seeing a delay in production. The studio has reportedly recast actor Ryan Hurst following a serious injury while simultaneously searching for new actors to step into two other major roles ahead.

Production on the series is currently on hold after Hurst, who was cast as Kratos, suffered a severe bicep tear during filming in late June. According to reports, the lengthy recovery time led the studio to recast the actor. The decision has pushed back production in Vancouver until October. The studio has not yet announced Hurst’s replacement.

The debut season’s casting call featured the character “Joshua,” who played Atreus in the last season. He will also appear in the upcoming season. This hints at the possibility of the show casting a new actor for the role in the second season soon.

Apparently, the studio is looking for a teenage version of “Joshua” or Atreus. The second character that the show is looking to cast is a teenage version of “Ruth,” a codename for Thor’s daughter, Thrud. For context, Callum Vinson and Island Austin play the younger versions of Atreus and Thrud in Season 1.

God of War is an upcoming fantasy drama series based on the video game franchise by the same name. This was highly inspired by Norse mythology. The story follows Kratos’ journey to the highest peak of the nine realms with his son Atreus to spread his wife’s ashes.

Confirmed cast members of the show include Teresa Palmer as Sif, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, and more.

Amazon Prime Video has not yet announced an official premiere date for God of War.
