I used the Gossamer Gear Bug Net Canopy extensively when section hiking The Long Trail in Vermont and then again when section hiking the Appalachian Trail. It was an insect-proof net you could hang under a tarp or the underside of a bunk bed to cover your head and shoulders, like a pyramid, while the rest of your body was under a quilt or in a sleeping bag.

The bug canopy came with five guy-out points and two pockets that held rocks to keep the back of the bug net on the ground. Fully extended, the bug canopy would cover the upper one-third of your sleeping bag. Four of the guy-out points could be staked and consisted of a loop with some lightweight cord attached. The fifth guy-out point controlled the height of the canopy and could be hung from a tarp pole, a tarp loop, or tied to a nail or other attachment point in a shelter.

At SectionHiker, we've seen countless new products come to market and then disappear because the company went out of business, moved its operations overseas, dropped low-profit products, or lost its US-based sewing staff. I really wish a cottage manufacturer would make this product again. Mine has gone missing, and I'd really like a replacement.

For those of you who still remember him, my friend Quoddy originally turned me onto this product. Quoddy has since passed, but he thru-hiked the Long Trail many times with a 10-pound pack and was a well-known ultralight backpacking advocate.
