Grey’s Anatomy star Kevin McKidd has landed the lead role in the upcoming ITV series The Only Suspect. This comes after McKidd announced he would be leaving Grey’s Anatomy after 18 seasons. McKidd is exiting the medical drama with Kim Raver.

Kevin McKidd to lead ITV’s The Only Suspect after Grey’s Anatomy exit

According to a report by Deadline, Kevin McKidd is set to appear as the lead in the upcoming series The Only Suspect from ITV. The show is based on the novel of the same name by Louise Candlish and is helmed by screenwriter Simon Ashdown.

McKidd will move to film The Only Suspect after he exits Grey’s Anatomy following the finale of the 22nd season. Talking about being cast in the series produced by Red Planet Pictures, McKidd stated, “Working with ITV on The Only Suspect feels like coming home for me. As an actor, the complex and multilayered role of Alex is exciting to explore, and I can’t wait to collaborate with Farren, the whole team at Red Planet Pictures, and an amazing ensemble of great British actors.”

The Only Suspect focuses on the story of Alex and Beth, whose quiet life takes a turn after a terrifying truth from the past comes back to haunt them. Speaking about the show, executive producer Tom Mullens said, “The Only Suspect is another riveting thriller from the prolific pen of Louise Candlish, and after the success of Our House, we’re excited to be working with Simon Ashdown and ITV once again.” He further stated that he is “thrilled to have Kevin McKidd leading a brilliant cast.”

McKidd has announced that he will leave Grey’s Anatomy in March. According to a report by Variety, in a statement, the actor said, “Grey’s Anatomy has been a huge chapter of my life, creatively and personally, and I’m deeply grateful for everything the show has given me over the years. As that chapter comes to a close, I’m looking forward to what’s ahead.”
