But for the Fashion Trust U.S. Awards in Los Angeles on April 8, Bieber decided to do something completely different—she wore purple nails. Yes, purple.

I keep a very close eye on the nail trendsetter's manicures, given it's part of my job, and I honestly don't think I've ever seen her wear a shade like this. But this also isn't your everyday, run-of-the-mill purple. It's not a deep plum or bright grape purple, like the kind you'd find in a box of Crayola markers, but rather a stylish fusion of mauve and lavender with just a hint of taupe. It's soft and muted, but still impactful. It also perfectly matches her halter dress, which was probably not a coincidence. The color may have been a total surprise, but Bieber did stick to her favorite nail shape, the long, classic almond, plus her go-to flushed cheeks, softly tinted lips, and extra-shiny long hair.
