The Food Network has announced a brand new survival TV show based on one of its popular reality competition series. The long-running cooking game show Chopped is officially getting a spin-off titled Chopped Castaways, which will feature 12 elite chefs showing off their skills on a remote island.

“Chopped is a series beloved by fans because it consistently delivers the high-stakes competition they crave,” Food Network president Betsy Ayala said in a statement. “With Chopped Castaways, we take that familiar formula of ingenuity and creativity and push it to the next level, challenging some of the most talented and resourceful chefs to battle the elements and approach the baskets in ways we’ve never seen before—all for an epic $100,000 prize.”

What do we know about the Food Network’s Chopped Castaways?

According to Variety, Chopped Castaways is an eight-episode survival cooking show now scheduled to premiere on May 12 at 9 p.m. on the Food Network, and will be available to stream the next day on HBO Max. The spin-off will be hosted by long-time Chopped host Ted Allen. He will be joined by three judges, including Gabe Bertaccini, Maneet Chauhan, and Marcus Samuelsson.

“Battling the elements across two grueling cooking rounds each week, competitors must build a working kitchen from basic supplies, earn their signature Chopped ingredient baskets through intense physical challenges, and cook entirely over open fire,” reads the show’s description. “Each episode of Chopped Castaways will open with survival-driven physical challenges (archery, spearfishing, diving in the ocean, and digging in the sand) that will help chefs to secure ingredients for round one. The season will begin as a team competition before moving into an individual battle format, raising the stakes as the chefs fight to outlast their rivals and claim the $100,000 grand prize.”

The original show has been on-air since 2009. Each episode centers around four chefs going up against each other in a three-round contest. It is currently in its 62nd season. Before Chopped Castaways, the show received its first spin-off, Chopped Sweets, which only lasted for three seasons.
