We love these easy donuts and you can make them in the oven, fried in a skillet or the air fryer.

Canned Biscuit Donuts

If you love donuts, you must try these delicious Cinnamon Donut Muffins. They have a cake donut texture and have wonderful reviews.

❤️WHY WE LOVE THIS RECIPE

We love the versatility of this recipe! You can bake these in the oven, fry them in a skillet, or make them in the air fryer. We love biscuits, and this is just a super easy recipe that is great on a weekend morning. Kids will enjoy helping you make these! They come together really quickly, not like yeast donuts. Now, do they taste just like a donut? I think they taste very similar but not like a yeast style donut fresh from the bakery.

SWAPS

We use the jumbo flakey donuts because they are thick and rise up a lot. They also seem to work well with this recipe. I am sure any canned donuts would work. You can make a chocolate glaze, vanilla glaze, sprinkles, etc. You can top the glaze with crushed nuts or just dip the entire donut in cinnamon sugar.

BEST OIL FOR FRYING

Any vegetable oil is going to be at the top of the list. We used canola oil because it really does heat very well. We haven’t tried olive oil for deep frying these but it may work just fine. We do use olive oil in the air fryer.

⭐TIP

These donuts are best served fresh but we did think they were still good the next day. Just not as great as when you first make them! These are perfect for a Sunday morning with a cup of coffee.

Total Time 30 minutes

Course Breakfast

Cuisine American, southern

  • 1 can biscuits I use the jumbo flaky biscuits
  • 1/2 stick butter or 4 tablespoons or 1/4 cup melted
  • 1/2 to 1 cup white granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon more or less

Topping Options

  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Cocoa
  • milk

Baking Donuts

  • Divide the biscuits and flatten out on counter top.  Make a hole in the center of each one either with the tip of a knife or a hole cutter.  Dip the donuts and the holes in melted butter and then in the sugar and cinnamon combined.  Place on sprayed baking sheet or on parchment paper and bake in preheated 375 degree oven for about 12 minutes. Makes 8 to 10 donuts and 8 to 10 holes depending on how many are in your can.

Fried Donuts Instructions

  • Heat cooking oil in skillet, cut hole in biscuits, drop biscuits and holes in hot oil.  Cook until brown on one side, turn and finish cooking.  This only takes a few seconds.  Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.  Sprinkle on or dip in powdered sugar or cinnamon and sugar combination.  Can melt chocolate chips and spread on donuts.  Use your imagination and add sprinkles. Makes the same amount as above.

Air Fryer Instructions

  • Preheat air fryer to 350 degrees for 3 minutes.  Brush both sides of biscuits with melted butter before cooking. Place 3 to 4 biscuits in air fryer.  Biscuits should not touch. Set air fryer at 350 for 7 minutes turning half way through cooking. Remove, cool and add or dip in favorite toppings.

Powdered Sugar Glaze

  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar with milk. Mix sugar and enough milk to reach your desired consistency with spoon.

Chocolate Glaze

  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar and 1 1/2 tablespoons cocoa plus milk. Mix sugar and cocoa with enough milk to reach desired consistency with spoon.
