A How to Train Your Dragon 2 crewmember was injured in an accident that resulted in them losing multiple fingers.

Universal Pictures’ How to Train Your Dragon 2 is currently in production. Written and directed by Dean DeBlois, the movie is a live-action remake of DreamWorks Animation’s 2014 animated movie of the same name. This is the second installment of the live-action How to Train Your Dragon film series, with the first movie having been released last year.

What happened to the How to Train Your Dragon 2 crewmember?

Per Variety, one of the members of How to Train Your Dragon 2’s crew suffered a severe injury while working off-set in the United Kingdom earlier this month.

The article reads, ”The individual, understood to be working as a special effects technician, severed multiple fingers on one hand during an incident involving a saw in a workshop at Sky Studios Elstree, where the film is currently in production. Despite extensive surgery, the severed digits were not able to be reattached. Variety has reached out to Universal for comment.”

More information is not available at this time.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 began production in late January 2026. Mason Thames is reprising his role as Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III in the film, while the cast also includes Nico Parker as Astrid Hofferson, Gerard Butler as Stoick the Vast, Cate Blanchett as Valka, Nick Frost as Gobber the Belch, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Drago Bludvist, Phil Dunster as Eret, Gabriel Howell as Snotlout Jorgenson, Julian Dennison as Fishlegs Ingerman, Bronwyn James as Ruffnut Thorston, and Harry Trevaldwyn as Tuffnut Thorston.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 is currently scheduled to be released in United States theaters on July 11, 2027. The first live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie, meanwhile, is available to stream on Netflix.
