Earlier this year, Andrew conducted a webinar for Kickstarter with Asher McClanahan, the head of games, to discuss tabletop strategies that make campaigns thrive.Well, we are pleased to announced that we had the pleasure of interviewing Asher in our territory to do an even deeper dive into funding games on Kickstarter!
They sat down with Asher and reviewed Kickstarter’s traffic estimates relative to competitors such as Backerkit and Gamefound using an SEO tool called Ahrefs.

Kickstarter Traffic and Discoverability:
- Significant Traffic Advantage: Kickstarter sees significantly more unique visitors than competitors like Gamefound and BackerKit. Using Ahrefs data, estimates range from 5-20 times more traffic depending on categories.
- Cross-Category Backers: Large campaigns in other categories (like Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmic RPG or the Eufy 3D printer) bring new eyes to the Kickstarter platform, a non-trivial number of whom explore other categories, including games.
- Recommendation Algorithm: Kickstarter’s algorithm aims to connect backers with projects they’ll genuinely love, even niche ones, by understanding your preferences due to an extensive history of people backing multiple projects.
