Contrary to popular belief, Ramadan fasting can actually benefit skin health, if you focus on hydrating foods and fluids during non-fasting hours. If what you’re putting in your body is nutritious and healthy, your craving for processed foods and sugary drinks (known contributors to skin issues like acne) will also reduced.

Additionally, fasting enhances detoxification processes, indirectly benefiting skin health by reducing the toxin burden.

To get a detailed blueprint of the do’s and don’ts for your skin during Ramadan, we spoke to renowned dermatologist, Dr. Radmila Lukian, whose esteemed clientele includes celebrities like Naomi Campbell and Eva Longoria on her roster.

Sharing her expertise below,  she gives us a complete breakdown of the recommended procedures, foods to consume and habits to avoid during the holy month of Ramadan.

What treatments do you reccommend that can be done during Ramadan?

I suggest opting for non-invasive treatments during Ramadan, as they come with less risks and provide natural-looking results. For instance, I would recommend the Nithya Collagen Treatment, a cutting-edge skin-plumping procedure designed to boost collagen production and improve skin texture and tone. It is a non-surgical and minimally invasive option. You can also explore skin tightening treatments such as EmFace, Micro-needling, and Laser treatments to name a few.

Are there any foods/drinks/ingredients you should focus on during Ramadan?

Eating a diverse and nutritious diet is essential for your well-being during Ramadan. By including a variety of plant-based foods in your meals, you can support the good bacteria in your gut and ensure your body receives all the necessary nutrients. I make an effort to incorporate whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and lean sources of protein like poultry, fish, nuts, and seeds into my daily meals, which gives me energy. Additionally, I try to minimize my intake of sugary treats.

What key tips would you recommend when it comes to maintaining skin health during Ramadan?

It’s crucial to give special attention to skincare, since alterations in diet, hydration levels, and sleep patterns can affect the skin. My suggestion would be to ensure you drink plenty of water to maintain your skin’s hydration. Streamlining your skincare routine is a great approach to save energy and time. Stick to the essentials such as cleansing, moisturizing, and applying sunscreen during the day. Steer clear of excessive sun exposure and make sure you get enough sleep.
