Words are powerful! Words are energy. The words you choose to think, share, and say can change and shift your reality almost instantly.

As a Reiki practitioner who was a television Writer/Producer for over twenty years before starting a Reiki practice, storytelling is a huge part of who I am. To me, words are everything, as they shape the story. And I believe Reiki is the most powerful storytelling tool.

In the same way that a writer can suffer from writer’s block and need to reset their energy so the words can flow again, the same is true for all of us. Our energy can get blocked, we can feel stuck, and the beautiful energy of Reiki can bring us back into our flow. Reiki can help you find the words that allow you to create the next chapter of your life story.

We Are All Writers

We are all creating the stories of our lives each day, with each choice, with each word. Our energy is the story unfolding, day by day. It is up to us to create a beautiful story. To truly know this is very empowering. We all have this power. Discovering this can be game-changing.

This is why, for me, in every session with each client, setting an intention is the most important part of the experience. Finding your words. Connecting with your truth. Whether in person or remote, intention setting sets the stage for the session.

Storytelling and Reiki: A Perfect Parallel

In the television and film world, a Producer puts all the elements together for the best outcome. The script is approved, the actors are cast in the perfect roles, the wardrobe and props are just right, and the camera is ready to start rolling. The lens and filter are set to capture the exact image envisioned.

If something doesn’t feel right, it can be changed instantly.

• Don’t like the green couch? Bring in the orange one.
• Don’t like the blouse your actress is wearing? Make it more casual.
• The lines the actor is saying don’t feel right? Get a quick re-write and change the script.
• The colors look too saturated on the monitor? Let’s change the lens on the camera.

Every tiny change changes the story. Seeing this play out over and over, year after year… stories coming to life, small changes making a big difference, it is illustrating time and time again that each choice affects the outcome and is part of the storytelling. The same is true with our lives.

The Reiki Session: Finding the Story

When someone enters a Reiki session, they are sharing their energy and allowing me to connect with their story. As I begin, I ask the client to relax as I do a scan of their energy.

I explain that I’d like them to release any thoughts or expectations that they came in with and to allow themselves to be present in the moment and aware of any sensations in their body. I tell them that when I arrive at their feet, I am going to ask for their intention for the session.

My hands hover over their body, moving slowly from their Crown Chakra to their feet. I feel and sense any blocks or disrupted flow:

• Is there a block in the heart Chakra?
• Does it seem to connect to the stuck energy in the liver?
• Are they holding onto rage? Sadness? Wait, is that grief?

I am scanning and visualizing, allowing my imagination to move into their story, as if I am in an edit room, seeing clips of their life—the beautiful parts, the rough parts, all of it.

Setting the Intention

After scanning, I ask my client, “What is your intention for today?”

Some people know right away. Others need guidance. I make it simple. I say “Fill in the blanks with the first words that pop into your head. Don’t filter yourself. Today, I am here to release _________ and receive __________. What are you here to release and receive?”

Common answers include:

• “I am here to release fear and receive love.”
• “I am here to receive clarity and release confusion.”
• “Release sadness and receive joy.”
• “Release anger and receive patience.”

When a client finds these words and fills in the blanks, there is a shift. An empowering moment. Simply saying it aloud and feeling the word in your energy is powerful. It helps them focus, feel present, and allows a starting point for the light.

Channeling the Reiki Energy

Channeling the beautiful high frequency of Reiki, we now have a shared focus. I am sending a high frequency of light and love to be received with the intention of clearing confusion and making space for clarity. I am bringing light to darkness.

In every situation, Reiki is clearing. It is releasing low frequency, replacing it with high frequency, as it elevates your vibration. It is as if you are being flooded with beautiful Divine energy that now knows exactly what its role is in this person.

The Power of Intention

Intentions create the pathway for the frequency. They are the essential piece of setting the stage to create the best story. They are the filter through which the energy flows. The lens through which the light is seeing this client.

When we do Reiki, we are channels of light. We are not the ones creating the experience. We are guiding the energy to do what is needed for this light who has reached out to us. Our light is working with theirs. For whatever reason, they have found us, their energy wants to be elevated, something needs to clear. And, with the right direction, we can help facilitate that change, by channeling healing light to elevate their own.

Honoring the Story

It is a beautiful honor to be invited into someone’s story. To hold space for another in light is truly a gift. And when we use tools like words to foster the best outcome, we can witness miracles happen. When people see their power, beauty, and limitless potential, they can experience big changes in their lives. They can start creating the best chapters of their lives, knowing they hold the pen.
