Then I got a video from the building manager at 3:37 p.m., and he said, "I'm sorry." The video showed that the entire back of the building [that housed the spa] is gone. I was devastated. I was just heartbroken to see that very special space was gone. Then I shifted to looking around and seeing that our whole community was gone. It was bigger than me. I'm just a tiny part of this huge community. I found out that the building’s landlord not only lost that business, she lost her home. She lost her sister because her sister didn't evacuate in time. These are the heartbreaking stories of this.

I'm a self-funded guy. I don't have any investors. All of my hard-earned money went into building this dream space, but I would do it all over again. I know that I will rebuild the spa in LA. That is a for-sure thing. The beautiful thing about Los Angeles is that we're a community that really helps one another. I've had so many other providers like [dermatologists], tattoo artists, colorists, you name it, reach out to me and say, "I'm so sorry for your loss. I have a space for you. You can come here tomorrow." I wouldn't be where I am today if it weren't for those relationships. Everyone helped me from day one.

I feel so fortunate that I have so many options because so many people don't. That's where my head is at right now. Life is so precious. I know I've lost my spa, but I feel like I'm one of the lucky ones because so many people have lost not only their businesses but their homes, family members, pets.

I'm hurt, but I know my dream lives on. This is going to make me stronger. I'm so grateful for that space, and it breaks my heart that six years later it burned down… but the memories didn’t.
