Jack Black Wants to Star in a 'Yakuza' Video Game Adaptation

Jack Black has appeared in a few video game adaptations, but there’s one in particular he is interested in doing next.

The 56-year-old actor stars in The Minecraft Movie and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, but next he wants to tackle the Yakuza franchise.

Speaking with ScreenRant, Jack said that he’s officially throwing his hat in the ring.

“So I’m going to throw my hat in that ring. I don’t know if there [are] any parts for me, like a portly American, but talk to me. Sega, give me a jingle,” he said.

Yakuza is the long-running and very popular franchise published by Sega that launched in 2005 with the first game on PlayStation 2. There are nine mainline titles and an abundance of spinoffs and remakes.

The franchise is known for blending crime drama with often hilarious and offbeat side content, following character-driven stories set in Japan’s gritty criminal underworld.

Amazon MGM Studios actually did try adapting the franchise for the crime TV show Like a Dragon: Yakuza, which aired for six episodes in 2024, but it was only a loose adaptation and did not wind up producing any additional episodes.

In the meantime, the Jumanji: The Next Level star will return to voice Bowser in the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie, releasing in theaters on April 1. See photos of Jack and the rest of the cast at the premiere in Japan!
