Johnny Knoxville claims responsibility for ‘monstrous explosion’ in Simi Valley

Johnny Knoxville, who, along with Jeff Tremaine and Spike Jonze, created the Jackass franchise, revealed that they ended the filming of the final film in the franchise, Jackass: Best and Last, with a huge explosion that locals may have even assumed to be a plane crash or blast.

Taking to Instagram, Knoxville shared a video detailing the incident. In the caption of the video, he explained what happened.

“Apparently, people thought a plane had crashed yesterday in Simi Valley,” Knoxville wrote in a post on Instagram, which showed a cloud of smoke. “Little did they know it was from a monstrous explosion @jemfxpopov created for us for the final day ever of @jackass filming.”

Knoxville continued in the post, “We were standing near the explosion and couldn’t believe what we were seeing. Immediately after, the entire cast went and hugged @jemfxpopov’s neck. Thank you to Elia, his crew, and the rest of our amazing crew yesterday to make sure we went out with a bang. 26 years and that’s a wrap!! Coming to theater June 26th, Jackass: Best and Last.”

Jackass was co-created by Jeff Tremaine, Spike Jonze, and Knoxville as a TV series in 2000. It ran for three seasons on MTV. After the series concluded, there were multiple film spin-offs, including Jackass: The Movie, Jackass Number Two, Jackass 3D, and Jackass Forever.

The franchise will conclude with the fifth and final film, Jackass: Best and Last. The trailer for the film premiered during CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

The film will hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
