The decades-old debate among X-Men fans finally got an official—albeit playful—ruling when James Marsden and Olivia Munn faced off over who would win in a fight between Cyclops and Psylocke.

James Marsden and Olivia Munn argue who wins between Cyclops & Psylocke

When Pause Rewind posed the question to the two X-Men veterans, Munn didn’t hesitate. “Got to be Psylocke,” she declared, prompting an immediate reaction from James Marsden. “Oh, does it got to be?” he shot back.

Munn laid out her case with the precision of a psychic assassin. “You know why it’s got to be? Cuz she can literally create anything with her mind. So, you can be doing whatever you’re doing, and she can be like, ‘Boulder, drop. Ball of fire, drop.’ She just chooses to use a sword because she likes the challenge, but if push came to shove, you’re done.”

Marsden, who played Scott Summers across multiple X-Men films, was not about to let his optic blasts go undefended. When asked for his counter-argument, the actor gave his retort with Cyclops-level precision. “Pushed away by my concussive beam of force that can punch a hole through a mountain. I mean, you bet, babe. Anything you’re dropping on me from the ceiling?”

Munn acknowledged the strong response with, “Well played, Marsden.” The exchange continued as James Marsden leaned into the playful rivalry. “I don’t like this. No way, you’re supposed to fight me.” But Munn revealed a more diplomatic side to her competitive nature. “No. You know who I am? I can be steadfast in what I believe, but as soon as somebody gives me a really good perspective, I will change. I am open enough to be convinced otherwise.”

The friendly debate comes as James Marsden prepares to reprise his mutant roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Fox era of X-Men will return in 2026 through the Multiverse Saga, with Marsden joining the star-studded cast of Avengers: Doomsday.
