Two of James Van Der Beek‘s final appearances came in 2025, just months before his passing.

If you did not see the tragic news, the 48-year-old Dawson’s Creek star’s wife Kimberly announced today (February 11) that he had passed away following a battle with colorectal cancer.

Now, we’re taking a look back at some of his final public appearances.

The last photos of him out and about that we have are from a Today show appearance in New York City in July of 2025. He was accompanied by his wife.

Prior to that, his last red carpet appearance came in May of 2025 at the premiere of Prime Video’s Overcompensating, where he posed with creator/star Benito Skinner, as well as co-star Connie Britton. James appeared in two episodes of the show as Charlie.

James had another appearance in 2025: he recorded a video message for a September 2025 Dawson’s Creek reunion that he missed due to a stomach virus. Fans grew concerned when they saw his appearance in the video, and he spoke about it a few months later.
