A highly acclaimed 2015 action thriller starring Josh Brolin is all set to begin streaming on Hulu next week. The Oscar-nominated film received unanimous acclaim for its gritty and grounded crime drama, earning high scores on review-aggregator sites.

Sicario streams on Hulu in May

Sicario will stream on Hulu from Friday, May 1, 2026, at 9 am PT/12 pm ET. This is shortly after the film exits Netflix on the same day.

Denis Villeneuve directed the film, with an original story by Taylor Sheridan, who made his writing debut with Sicario. This was also Sheridan’s first film in his intended American Frontier Trilogy. The series later included Hell or High Water (2016) and Wind River (2017).

The story follows Kate Macer, an FBI agent recruited into a covert government task force as they target a Mexican cartel to flush out their boss, Fausto Alarcón, through smaller drug lords. As Kate gets more involved in the hunt, she increasingly grows restless about the team’s questionable methods.

Sicario’s cast features Josh Brolin as Matt, Emily Blunt as Kate, Benicio del Toro as Alejandro, Daniel Kaluuya as Reggie, Jon Bernthal as Ted, Victor Garber as Dave, and Jeffrey Donovan as Steve, among others.

The film premiered at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. There, it received a nomination for the Palme d’Or, the festival’s highest award for a director. Sicario opened in the United States with a limited release on September 18, 2015, and expanded to more screens by the end of the month (via Variety).

The film almost immediately garnered high praise from both critics and audiences alike. It currently stands with an impressive 91% critic approval rating and a 85% user rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Moreover, it received three Oscar nominations the following year.

Meanwhile, produced on a reported budget of approximately $30 million, the film earned close to $85 million worldwide, making it a commercial success as well. Consequently, its sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, followed in June 2018, with Stefano Sollima as the director. A third film, currently titled Sicario: Capos, is in development (via Movieweb).
