Kat Graham Cut Out of Michael Jackson Movie, Explains 'Legal Considerations' Affected Her Scenes as Diana Ross

Kat Graham is no longer in the Michael Jackson biopic that is hitting theaters.

The film, which stars Michael‘s nephew Jaafar Jackson as the King of Pop, hits theaters tomorrow.

Here’s the synopsis: Michael is the cinematic portrayal of the life and legacy of one of the most influential artists the world has ever known. The film tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of the Jackson Five, to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world. Highlighting both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career, the film gives audiences a front-row seat to Michael Jackson as never before. This is where his story begins.

Kat was supposed to portray Diana Ross in the film, and confirmed the casting in 2024 on her Instagram, writing, “Grateful to play the legendary Diana Ross… directed by the great @AntoineFuqua. I can’t wait for everyone to see this film and the brilliant performances in it. Thank you Graham King, Vickie Thomas and Mr. Fuqua for allowing me the privilege of supporting the retelling of such a pivotal era in our music history.”

Now, she’s sharing that her role was cut out from the movie.

“Ahead of the April 24 release of the Michael Jackson film, I want to share that certain legal considerations affected a few scenes, including the ones I filmed with an incredible cast. Unfortunately, those moments are no longer part of the final cut, though the team worked hard to preserve as much of the story as possible,” Kat posted on her X account on Thursday (April 23).

Over a year ago, there was a report that legal issues had come up and delayed the release of the film.
