Kate Beckinsale is calling cut on this rumor.
After a report began circulating that the 51-year-old and comedian Matt Rife—her ex from 2017—locked lips at Netflix’s Golden Globes after-party on Jan. 5, Kate was quick to set the record straight.
“It is incorrect that they were kissing,” her rep told People. “They are friendly exes who were having a fun time speaking.”
Kate briefly dated the 29-year-old back in 2017, when they were 43 and 21-years-old, respectively, having met through mutual friends and broke up after about a year.
At the time, Matt acknowledged their 22-year age difference, writing—and then deleting—on Instagram, “Age is just a number. Find someone you love, and take their breath away...even if that means putting a kink in their oxygen tank cord. #LifeAlertTypeOfLove."
Following their split, and after Kate moved on to SNL’s Pete Davidson, Matt issued a scathing response to the new relationship, telling his fellow comedian to “be careful.”
“Man to man: run,” he told TMZ in 2019 of Kate and Pete. “Enjoy it while you can. I hope they’re both happy. I hope that it can build to where it’s an established, good relationship.”
He added, “I wish them both the best. I hope they’re happy. I don’t really have any solid advice, just be careful.”

However, four years later, Matt apologized for the comments.
“I regret saying that,” he told Elle in 2023. “Pete, if you’re out there, sorry I said that. Kate, I also apologize that I said that. I shouldn’t have said that.”
He added, “I gave that advice because I was only speaking from personal experience, having been together and finding out that we weren’t the most compatible match. I wanted to make sure that both of them were careful with their emotions and didn’t head into something that they also wouldn’t, that also wouldn’t work out.”

These days, any bad blood is behind the pair, and they enjoyed a friendly exchange at this year’s Golden Globes festivities.
In addition to their run-in, Kate also crossed paths with her Click costar Adam Sandler at the Netflix bash, while Matt caught up with fellow comedians Nate Bargatze and Nikki Glaser—who also hosted the award show—at the Globes’ official after party.
