The fifth film in the Keanu Reeves‘ John Wick franchise, Ballerina, continues to top streaming charts following its addition to HBO Max. The action-thriller premiered in theaters nearly a year ago. However, despite garnering positive reviews from critics and fans, it underperformed financially compared to its predecessors.

Ballerina continues to be a streaming success on HBO Max

As of April 1, 2026, Ballerina is the #1 movie on HBO Max in the United States. Notably, sitting behind it at #2 is Keanu Reeves‘ John Wick: Chapter 4 (via FlixPatrol).

The two films also surpass Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films, which rank at #3 and #4, The 40-Year-Old Virgin (#5), Spider-Man (#6), The Amazing Spider-Man (#7), Fackham Hall (#8), Spider-Man 2 (#9), and Evan Almighty (#10).

Ballerina premiered in theaters on June 6, 2025, and despite being the fifth film in the John Wick series, it is technically a spin-off. Revolving around Eve Macarro, the story follows her as she goes on a quest for vengeance against a cult that killed her father.

Len Wiseman, whose filmmaking credits include the Underworld franchise and Live Free or Die Hard, directed the movie from a screenplay by Shay Hatten. Meanwhile, Chad Stahelski, who helmed all four of the previous John Wick films, Basil Iwanyk, and Erica Lee served as producers.

Ana de Armas stars as Eve, leading a supporting cast that includes Reeves, Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus.

Ballerina grossed approximately $137 million globally. Accordingly, it is the second-lowest-grossing movie of the John Wick franchise. Here are the box office grosses of previous installments:

On Rotten Tomatoes, Ballerina boasts a “certified fresh” critical score of 75% and a
“verified hot” audience score of 92%. Meanwhile, Metacritic displays a “mixed or average” Metascore of 59 and a user score of 6.5 — the latter denoting “generally favorable” reception.
