Sick of It All has announced the death of front man Lou Koller.

“It’s with unbelievable sadness that we announce to our worldwide hardcore family the passing of our brother Lou Koller. The level of loss that we feel at this time is overwhelming,” they wrote in a statement posted Friday (July 24) on social media.

Lou was 59 at the time of his death and passed away amid a battle with adenocarcinoma cancer.

Lou Koller was diagnosed with cancer in June 2024

In June 2024, the singer shared with his fans that a doctor had found a tumor in esophagus and received the diagnosis of adenocarcinoma cancer. He took a break from touring with the band to undergo treatment. The tumor went from his esophagus into his stomach and Lou shared that the band had fully supported him throughout.

He and his brother, Pete Koller, formed Sick of It All with drummer Armand Majidi in 1986 Queens, New York. The group’s debut album, Blood, Sweat and No Tears, dropped in 1989 and they have been touring pretty much constantly ever since.

“We have lost a beloved friend and an iconic frontman. Lou had the power to raise everyone’s spirits at our shows with a smile and a sarcastic comment, and he won people over wherever we played, from every culture and every corner of the world,” the band’s statement said.

It continued, “At this time of intense grief, we must again acknowledge the great help and support offered by everyone who donated to Lou’s medical fund. You all helped Lou feel very special and very loved as he battled away these last two years. His battle is over now and he can finally rest. Hopefully he can somehow still see and feel the beautiful, positive mark he left on the world.”
